St. Joseph’s Hospice has launched its annual Light up a Life appeal, which will conclude in December with a very special Christmas service and light switch on which is being pre-recorded for families to join in online.
This year, to reflect the fact that so many families have been kept apart due to Covid-19, the hospice has extended Light up a Life so that even more families can make a special dedication to their loved ones.
Every year, Light up a Life helps families to remember and celebrate the lives of those they have lost, as well as the distant family and friends who can’t be together at Christmas. This year, people can also make a dedication to someone they have missed seeing or to say thank you to someone who is important to them.
Maxine Armstrong, head of fundraising at St. Joseph’s Hospice, said: “After the difficult year we have all endured, we are even more aware of how important our family and friends are to us. Most of us have missed someone during the crisis, a cherished family member or friend. Some of us have missed contact with our loved ones, others have lost someone during the year or in previous years that they still miss very much.
“By choosing to make a dedication to Light up a Life, you are not only remembering your loved ones but helping to support and fund all the vital work the hospice does for our community.
“The lights on our Christmas tree will recognise every dedication made and everyone who makes a dedication will also receive a card.”
Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s Light up a Life service will be pre-recorded and will be made available for families to take part in online from Friday 4th December.
