Hospice hosts celebration evening for volunteers

St. Joseph’s Hospice treated its volunteers to a very special celebration evening at the hospice on Thursday.

Over 140 volunteers enjoyed a delicious buffet on the lawn, washed down with a glass or two of wine, at the hospice’s annual Volunteer’s Evening.

Hospice Chief Executive, Mike Parr, and Chair of Trustees, George Foster, presented every volunteer with a thank you certificate, kindly donated by Sefton CVS, in recognition of their dedication and commitment to the hospice. Every certificate was signed by the Mayor of Sefton, Cllr June Burns.

One volunteer, Mary Diamond, was also presented with a very special award recognising her outstanding achievement as a volunteer. She has been a hospice volunteer, helping out on reception, for over ten years but is sadly leaving this year and will be greatly missed.

Mary, from Blundell Sands, said: “I have loved volunteering at the hospice and have met some wonderful people. My life has changed now and I want to spend more time with my family overseas so it’s time to move on but the hospice will always have a special place in my heart.”

Shop volunteers, gardeners, receptionists, ward clerks , administrative assistants, fundraisers, befrienders, therapists, kitchen assistants and new tea trolley volunteers, as well as lots of individuals and groups from across the local community, all give up their valuable time to help the hospice, which enables it to provide the best possible care to patients and their families.

Mike Parr, Chief Executive of St. Joseph’s Hospice, said: “Every single person who has ever volunteered or raised money has made a valuable contribution to the running of St Joseph’s Hospice.

“You should all be very proud of the part you have played in ensuring that we are still here providing our patients and their families with the high quality care and support they deserve at their most difficult time.”
