Hospice appeals to community for help

St. Joseph’s Hospice has appealed to the local community across Merseyside for help so that it can continue to care for patients living with life-limiting conditions across our community.

Hospice nurses and carers are continuing to work night and day to provide high quality care and compassion for its patients, through these unprecedented times. At the same time, hospice support staff and management are continuing to manage the running of the hospice, largely from home in order to protect nursing staff and patients.

Last week, the hospice wrote to 2,000 supporters asking for their help with the potentially damaging impact of the virus on the hospice.

The letter stated that: “Over the next couple of months, the hospice would normally hold significant fundraising events and initiatives to help it raise the £8,750 per day required to keep St Joseph’s Hospice open. Regrettably, it is now impossible to hold these events and the hospice has had to cancel all community and face-to-face fundraising for the foreseeable future.”

Hospice chief executive, Mike Parr, and clinical director, Clare Waller, said: “We are enormously proud of the role St Joseph’s Hospice plays in the community and of our staff’s dedication to providing a homely, caring and safe environment for people living with life limiting illnesses.

“We are determined that we will continue to provide the same levels of care, round the clock, every day of the year, not only during the current crisis but long in to the future as well. I hope you are in a position to help ensure this is the case by supporting us today. We would be grateful for anything you can donate as every single penny will help us.”

The letter finishes with the plea, “If you can, please support us today! You can make a donation using the links on our website or by sending money direct to us at the hospice. Alternatively, you can join our Hospice Lottery. It only costs £1 per week to play and there is a weekly jackpot of £1,000. All the proceeds go towards keeping our service open. Thank you so much for the generosity you have shown already.”
