Hospice staff take on charity walk to the Liver

Nurses and support staff from St. Joseph’s Hospice will be stepping out of lockdown next week and undertaking a challenge walk to the Royal Liver Building in Liverpool.

With its supporters unable to take on their own fundraising challenges this year, due to coronavirus, staff at the hospice have decided to challenge themselves on behalf of all their supporters in their Lockdown Walk to the Liver.

A small group of staff will set off from the hospice in Thornton at 10am on Wednesday 2nd December, walking socially distanced along a ten-mile route to the city’s most famous landmark.

Maxine Armstrong, head of fundraising at St. Joseph’s Hospice, said: “Coming out of lockdown next week has given us a fantastic opportunity to get outside as a team and do what our supporters do for us every other year through their own brilliant fundraising challenges.

“We have planned our route carefully so that our supporters can wave and cheer us on as we go past their homes and places of work. But we are asking our supporters to please observe government guidance and keep their distance and, instead, show their support by donating via text or to our JustGiving page.

“It’s been a very tough year for our patients and their families, with restrictions on visiting and families parted due to lockdowns, and so our nurses, carers and key workers wanted to step in and do something to help.

“Unfortunately, our supporters aren’t able to join in in person but we’d love them to show us their support as we take on this challenge walk and look forward to better times ahead in 2021.”

To show your support to the nurses and non-clinical staff from St. Joseph’s Hospice, please text LIVERWALK 5 to 70085 to donate £5. Texts cost £5 plus one standard rate message.

Please note that this is not a public event and is not open to external participants due to government guidance and local coronavirus restrictions.
